The U.S. wind industry installed 8,558 MW in 2008, shattering all previous records. A total of 25,369 MW has been installed at the end of 2008, spanning 35 states.

Installed wind power produces enough electricity to meet the electricity demand of seven million average American homes. At the end of 2008, the U.S. surpassed Germany as the worldwide leader in installed wind energy.

Worldwide installed capacity was 120,791 MW at the end of 2008.
